Since 1.14 Village and Pillage, the villages of Minecraft have been drastically changed. There's been a complete overhaul of how trading works, item economy, and the jobs each villager has to take on. This will be a comprehensive guide to managing your villager's trades and the villagers. You should be able identify the best method of obtaining the things you require by the end. So let's get started!

What are the Countless Villager Jobs available in Minecraft?

There are currently 15 villager positions available in Minecraft. This is a list of the various jobs villagers could be employed in. You can place the job block that matches the job you are looking for next to Unemployed Villager if you want to apply for a job. The job given to the villager will determine what trades they will offer. If you don't have an unemployed Villager, you can destroy the job block that a villager is using. If you are unable to obtain the desired trades from a villager, you can remove the job block and put it again to replenish their trades.

Villager Appearance:

Villagers' roles can change depending on their job, however the appearance of villager's appearance will differ in each biome. To make sure that each job remains distinct, they keep traits that are specific to their field of work. All Farmers will wear straw hats and all Librarians will wear glasses.

Trading in stocks

Mojang introduced the wonderful concept of 'Supply and demand in Mojang 1.14. This means that if a trade is done too often it will not only make the villager run short of inventory, but also prices (the amount of items/emeralds that you have to exchange) will rise. Trades can be done around four times before stock is exhausted. Villagers will restock once a day. The price of an item will drop when it's not traded.

Unlocking Trades:

When a trade occurs between a villager and a player, both gain experience. The next level of trades can be unlocked once the villager's levels increase. There are five levels of trades for each villager that unlock more expensive items. A villager's level is represented by a colored badge on their clothing, which can be found from Novice(Stone), Apprentice(Iron), Journeyman(Gold), Expert(Emerald) all the way to Master(Diamond).

Wandering Trader

It might seem odd, but it is true that there is one villager who is different from the others. The Wandering Trader is a passive Mob that appears randomly throughout the globe, with no pattern. It has two trading lamas with leash which are similar to normal llamas but with a slight cosmetic alteration. Another peculiarity about this Villager is the absence of trading levels. This means that any trades you've taken with him will remain yours for the duration of time. Be assured, however, that his trades will be reset next time he spawns in.

The trades offered by the Wandering Trader are regarded as generally obscure and difficult items to obtain. Although they aren't particularly effective or impressive, they are still valuable. Be quick, as the Wandering Trader will disappear within 40-60 minutes.

Popularity:

As an athlete, you enjoy a level of popularity. This is decreased by performing negative actions like attacking villagers and gaining popularity by trading more often or curing zombie villagers. Negative actions can raise prices, while positive actions can decrease them.

Let's say that Illagers attack your village without warning. You happen to be nearby and you can fend off the attack. You will be rewarded with the 'Hero of The Village' status effect which further reduces prices for trade (except for trades that cost 1 emerald.)

These are the basics of villager jobs and trading. You should now be able to manage a farm in a village like an expert! Mojang feels the need to take the carpet off the floor often and, for better or worse, trading can be slightly more complicated with Supply & Demand mechanics, along with popularity functions. You can use these features to greatly help you, or even cause havoc to the trading economy on your Minecraft server. I hope that you found this guide useful. 30TT Good luck and I wish you the best!
