Abstract (summary) The study examines the educational advantages of video games and games-based learning. Specifically this research project qualitatively examines the effectiveness of a well-known game known as Minecraft in a classroom setting. ADDICT GAMING Three semi-structured interviews were conducted with educators who use Minecraft in class as a primary, optional, or supplementary tool. The participants were asked to share their ideas of their experiences using Minecraft. The results suggest that Minecraft can be used as an excellent tool that decentralizes instruction, fosters students' creativity, facilitates collaboration in class, allows teachers to cross-curricularly teach and cross-classroom and addresses the needs of students with diverse backgrounds and students who have experienced previous school struggles, and could potentially even have therapeutic values for students with learning disabilities. The introduction of Minecraft to classrooms however isn't an easy task due to the initial financial investment, hardware requirements, technology and board regulations could hinder some schools from using Minecraft in class. Teachers who are keen on the implementation of Minecraft in their schools should ensure that students have access to the game-based learning environment and that they are guided by teachers.
